And how do you know it is the Summer Series?…….. Because it is 0 deg Celsius, hail stones and thunder and lightning. Not a good day to start a new event but 59 stalwarts reported to the start plus two Juniors.

Dave Smith grabbed the initiative in the middle stages to run with Charlie Stead. Andrew Minister had blasted off with Mike Jeffries in pursuit. Will Horsley and dog set off at the back as usual! Dave ran on to just pip Charles down the last part of the descent. Mike came in just ahead of Steve Baldwin and Will and the dog came through to 5th.

In the women's event Pippa Archer had established a lead by the first climb and went on to win from Rhona Haslam and Caroline Warrington. Kay Neesam was the first veteran in with a very creditable 4th.

North York Moors won the men's team event ahead of Esk Valley and Acorn. In the women's team it was Scarborough who packed well in  2, 8 & 10. Obviously all times are pb's for the course and winning times are records.

In the juniors the boys winner was Joe Weston of Rotherham in 23.54 and EmilyDavis of North Shields was the girls winner in 32.06
