On a day which was not for the faint hearted, 52 stalwarts set out to tackle this beautiful but demanding bit of North Yorks. Everything was going on around us with rumours that the police were on stand-by with riot control (no not for us but some possible protest at Fylingdales). There were certainly a lot of police around. The runners set off at a lick and completed the first 7K in little time at all. At this point however things started to go amiss with the leading eleven runners descending the wrong ravine to Kidstie Farm.
I was at Hudson's Griff which is the next checkpoint where the lone figure of Andrew Henderson came out of the now gentle rain and mist to be pursued by no-one for sometime! I knew straight away what was amiss, Charles Stead, Joe Blackett, Graham Lucas, Alan Bogle, Paul Kelly, Richard Hall, Stuart Mechie, Stuart Backhouse, Andrew Carruthers and Giles Hawking had missed the check by descending the earlier ravine.
